Most people shudder at the thought of moving house as it often conjures up memories of long stressful days which are enough to exhaust even the most energetic of us. However, moving into a new home is something all of us will have to tackle at some time in our lives so here’s our advice for ensuring a stress free move:
Pack Before the Removalists Arrive
Whilst it can be tempting to think you’ll be able to finish packing your possessions on moving day, you should make a point of having everything packed up and ready to go before your removalists arrive. The last thing you want is to be paying your removalists to stand around waiting for you to have everything ready for them to pack into the truck.
Stock up on Boxes, Tape and Packing supplies
You should always over prepare when it comes to packing boxes, tape and supplies (which we can help with!). Making a quick dash to your local self storage facility is the last thing you want to be doing on the day of your move and any leftover materials will always come in handy to have around the house.
Clearly Label all Boxes
Perhaps the most important tip of all is to clearly label every box so you know exactly what’s in them. Be as specific as possible when writing the contents onto the boxes so you can prioritise which boxes to unpack first. Quite often unpacking will spill over into the following day and you don’t want to be sifting through 6 boxes all labelled ‘kitchen’ to locate the kettle when it comes time for some much need coffee the following morning. If you’re putting any possessions into a self storage facility, be sure to clearly identify the boxes and keep them separate to ensure they’re loaded into the removalists truck together – this will save you money as less time will be required to unpack them at our container storage units on the Gold Coast.
Clean out as you Pack
You can save yourself a lot of time and effort by being efficient with what you take with you to your new home. Throwing out possessions you no longer want as you pack will save you from having to unpack them at the other end and reduce the amount of time and money wasted by paying your removalists to move them. You will also save money on self storage as you won’t require as much space to store your goods.
Place Your Goods into Self Storage!
If you haven’t already planned where absolutely everything will go in your new home, we recommend hiring a storage unit in advance to handle any excess boxes and furniture. Don’t fall into the trap of placing all non essential items into your garage, like thousands of others do, as more often than not those boxes will remain in your garage untouched for years to come. Here at Elite Container Storage on the Gold Coast, we have storage units to cater for all scenarios. So whether you need a short term storage solution or something a little more permanent, we can help you keep your new home uncluttered.
Call in all Favours
Remember that time you helped your friends/ siblings/ in-laws move into their new home? Don’t be afraid to call in all favours on moving day as the saying ‘many hands make light work’ rings true when it comes to moving house. If you have a friend with a ute or trailer, start buttering them up a few weeks in advance as you’ll definitely be wanting them to owe you a favour when the time comes to relocate. Don’t stress If you don’t know anyone with ute or trailer, we can supply a complimentary trailer to help you move your goods into our Gold Coast storage facility.
