Hints & Tips for storage
When you store your furniture and other items with us at Elite Container Storage, you can rest assured that our fully insulated storage containers will keep your possessions safe 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
However there are a few things to keep in mind when preparing your goods to be loaded into our storage containers.
Below we’ve listed the most important things to remember when moving your items into our storage sheds. By following these tips and tricks you’ll minimise the amount of storage space required and ensure that you avoid damaging your goods.
Ensure that all white goods such as refrigerators, freezers etc, are clean & dry before placing them in our storage containers.
It is advisable to leave their doors slightly open to prevent mould from accumulating inside.
It is a good idea to place a deodoriser inside your white goods to maintain freshness.
You should resist the temptations to store items inside your white goods – they can often scratch the inner walls so it’s better to leave them empty.
You should always empty any furniture such as wardrobes & drawers before moving them. The added weight of your possessions can damage them in transit. You can then refill them once they’re safely stored at one of our facilities to save on space.
Fabric items such as cushions and couches should be wrapped in plastic.
Remove the legs of any furniture (such as beds, tables etc) to avoid damaging them and save on space within our storage containers. Ensure that your couches are fully cleaned prior to placing them in storage – crumbs in between the cushions can attract vermin.
Where possible, heavy items such as furniture should be placed on plastic or material to protect them. Stacking chairs will save you space, but be sure to use cushions or paper to separate them to avoid any damage.
All fragile items should be individually wrapped in packing paper before being placed in sturdy boxes that are clearly marked “Fragile”.
Avoid using newspaper to wrap fragile items as the ink can often leave a stain.
Add plenty of extra packing materials into the top and bottom of the boxes for added protection.
Position plates, bowls and other crockery on their sides to avoid any breakages.
Ensure that heavy items aren’t placed on top of your fragile boxes. Mirrors and framed artwork should be wrapped firmly in cardboard or special mirror cartons to prevent movement and breakage.
Electronics such as TVs, computers etc such be packed back into their original boxes (if you still have them). If you don’t have these boxes, we have speciality storage boxes for many types of electronics. Ensure that nothing heavy is stored on top of delicate electronics to avoid any damage.
It is a good idea to wipe any metal items, such as tools, down with a few drops of oil before placing them in storage. This will prevent rust from occurring.
Keep these items separate from goods that may stain from the oil (such as wooden furniture etc).
If you’re storing precious metals such as silver, they should be wrapped in NON ACID tissue paper to help prevent tarnishing.
You can not store any Goods in our Storage Containers that are hazardous, illegal, stolen, inflammable, explosive, environmentally harmful, perishable or that are a risk to the property of any person. This includes items like petrol tins, paint thinner, full gas bottles or chlorine.
